PC PROFESSIONALE: Vigor2110 series review in Italy

(Summary of PC Professionale)

It is not easy for offices and small businesses to establish network infrastructure. In the area of networking, for example, the choice of router should be carefully weighed: if the devices for the SOHO market are often insufficient for the needs of connectivity and security; equally true that one can not always allow an office to obtain full consultancy from Value Add Reseller. In many cases the solution provided by your ISP not only provides connectivity, but includes a package of hardware.

For those who wish to purchase a third-party routers, many factors to consider are:

Security and reliability First, then , integration of functions to save on costs and maintenance, plus a management system in proportion with the skills of staff at the office or business

DrayTek is a Taiwanese company and is expert for development of advanced router for office and small business;home products offer anything but a forbidding set of features sufficient to satisfy the basic needs of the professional security_users.

Take the new Vigor2110 series as example, it includes services such as advanced firewall, VPN termination, print server and basic storage. The n models also add IEEE802.11n compliant WLAN access point and a VoIP module for managing telephone traffic.

Take physical design, the router has a plastic frame that allows the installation on a desktop or wall mounting; the natural place is in a vertical position, but in this case the positioning of the connection ports on one side of one can make the complicated layout of cables,

The Vigor has a WAN interface for connecting to an external gateway, and local connections are guaranteed by the four-port Fast Ethernet switch. In models with VoIP functions are then present three RJ-11, for connection to a phone line to hook Traditional as well as two analog devices, while devices with wireless connectivity on its top by means of three adjustable and detachable antennas.

Continuing with wireless we have found particularly useful the presence of two buttons respectively dedicated to automatic configuration of secure connection using WPS protocol and switched off the entire Wi-Fi equipment. The USB port lets you connect to a printer for whole network or a storage device. From the perspective of network protection, the Vigor2110 supports the classic SPI firewall which is consisted of several control modules, from content management system, this allows you to block access to major instant messaging and peer-to-peer applications, which can not only compromise productivity in the workplace, but also often saturate the bandwidth available for Internet in which the most sensitive and important applications for office are impeded. Similarly you can filter the connection to certain Web sites, either from a list (black or white) of keywords, both relied on dynamic content filtering service. The Vigor2110 series can then be used as VPN termination to allow remote access to the local network by telecommuters or branch offices connect via the Internet. The device supports up to 2 VPN tunnels simultaneously and can use the classic protocols of PPTP, IPSec, L2TP. For those who already possessed VPN terminals installed within your home network, you can still turn on the router pass-through traffic encrypted.

To take advantage of the bandwidth available for WAN, the router then provides a series of mechanisms from Quality of Service, from the guaranteed bandwidth for VoIP traffic, through the management of DiffServ-based priority or classes of traffic, and you define the limits of resources for each user. To make the system more flexible policy setting on the router, Draytek adopted "objects setting" management: an object can be an address or a set of IP addresses, a service connection, or a user or calendar time. All objects are then defined by the administrator form of usage within the rules of routers in security or quality of the service, although more complicated than the typical classical management of SOHO products, this system lets you set rules distinctively. The Vigor2110Vn model integrates with a VoIP PBX system, while not wishing to compete in terms of completeness of functions with enterprise systems and basic Asterisk, the platform developed by DrayTek and can handle an independent telephone via connection to analog line (connect directly to the router) and a maximum 6- SIP accounts for calls over an IP network. The Vigor2110Vn also can connect up to two analog terminals (phone and fax) in addition to those SIP-compatible digital devices....
